Statement, 30 May 2016: Improvements to Wheelchair Accessible Taxis Are A Win for Customers

Effective 1 July 2016, an expanded interest-free loans scheme is now open for NSW Taxi Industry applications. The loan can fund the full cost of putting a new WAT on the road, or retrofitting an existing one with loans of up to $100,000 available, from a pool of $5 million each year for the next four years – a total of $20 million.

Transport for NSW has also:

  • Raised the Taxi Transport Subsidy Scheme (TTSS) cap from $30 to $60
  • Reduced the WAT licence fees in metro areas to zero, in line with the rest of NSW
  • Increased the WAT driver incentive payment from $7.70 (ex GST) to $15 (ex GST).
