Taxis to Help Vivid Dazzle Sydney in 2016

Vivid Sydney, the multi-award winning winter festival of light, music and ideas returns to light up Sydney with exciting new precincts to explore, mesmerising new light art to inspire and plenty of entertainment for everyone. 

Now in its eighth year, this spectacular festival has grown into the largest of its kind in the world, attracting more than 1.7 million visitors last year. 

In 2016, Vivid Sydney will be bigger and better than ever, offering an expanded program of multi-genre music, more stimulating ideas and discussions from global innovators, plus dazzling light art and illuminations across the city. Join in the fun and experience it for yourself! 

NSW taxis will be doing its part to help everyone enjoy this fantastic event. 

Vivid Festival Sydney

We have provided the following information to help passengers have a great festival experience and to get home safely: 

ROAD CLOSURES AND TRAFFIC CHANGES 

Major roads in the Sydney CBD will be closed and special event clearways will be in place each night during Vivid. 

Most roads north of Bridge Street will be closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights (including Monday of the June long weekend) along with George Street, between Park Street and The Rocks. 

Roads will be closed Monday to Thursday from 7pm, Fridays from 6pm and weekends from 5pm. All roads will reopen by midnight each night. 

Monday to Thursday closures will impact:

THE ROCKS & WALSH BAY: George Street, Hickson Road and Circular Quay West.

Friday to Sunday (incl. long weekend Monday) closures include: 

CITY NORTH: George Street, Bridge Street and Bond Street.

CIRCULAR QUAY: all roads north of Bridge Street, including Alfred Street, Young Street, Phillip Street and parts of Macquarie Street.

THE ROCKS & WALSH BAY: George Street, Hickson Road and Circular Quay West.  

Special event clearways will be in place in the city from 3pm each day. Check signs before parking as vehicles left in special event clearways will be towed and a towing fee incurred.

TAXI RANK ACCESS 

Please note that a number of taxi ranks in the Sydney CBD, Circular Quay and The Rocks will not operate due to road closures. Demand for taxis may be high at times, and we ask for people to patient as we respond to increased requests for our service. 

We ask passengers to use supervised ranks, book early and use an authorised taxi booking app found at nswtaxi.org.au/passengers/apps 

  • The Macquarie Street taxi rank will be operating every night throughout the Vivid festival. There will be two Taxi Security Commissionaires operating this rank.
  • Alfred Street Taxi Rank will be operating Monday to Thursday.
  • Pitt Street (near Reiby Place) will be operating on Fridays and Sundays (as well as public holiday Monday 13 June). Taxi Security Commissionaires will also be operating this rank.
  • A temporary Super Rank will be set up on Bridge Street (between Gresham and Loftus streets) on Saturdays and Sunday 12 June (night before public holiday). There will be two Taxi Security Commissionaires operating this rank.
  • The Taxi Rank on Wheat Road, Darling Harbour (near the IMAX) will be operating on all nights. This is a secure rank on Friday and Saturday nights.
    • Please be patient and considerate of others when waiting for taxis.
  • Wheelchair Accessible Taxi drop off and pick up locations include:
    • Sydney Opera House forecourt.
    • Hickson Road (North of Pottinger Street).
    • Pitt Street (near Reiby Place) on Fridays and Sundays (as well as public holiday Monday 13 June).
