The trial of the TRANSPORT ZONE in Bayswater Road over three Saturday nights in March and April has been declared a success.

The TRANSPORT ZONE meant that access to Bayswater Road was restricted to taxis, buses, hire cars and residents, and traffic was controlled by the Police.

All taxis entering Bayswater Road from Darlinghurst Road were diverted down Kellett Street. Taxis wanting to pick up passengers entered via Ward Avenue and were then required to join the rank.

From a traffic management point of view as well as for improved crowd management and pedestrian safety, the trial has been declared successful.

The NSW Taxi Council is now working with the NSW Government, Police and local authorities to determine the next steps.
