Planned Sydney CBD Road Closures
To help everyone move around the Sydney CBD safely, road closures and clearways will be in place in the city on Australia Day.
Road closures
4am to midnight: George St from Essex St to Lower Fort St. Sections of Argyle St, Circular Quay West, Essex St and Pitt St.
7am to 10am: Hickson Rd from Napoleon St to Pottinger St, Towns Pl from Dalgety Rd to Hickson Rd, and Barton St (for GIO Oz Day 10K wheelchair race).
7am to midnight: Hickson Rd from George St to Pottinger St and OPT Elevated Rd from Hickson Rd.
3:00pm to 10.30pm: Cahill Expressway lanes 7 & 8 and Overpass at Circular Quay including the High St, Mount St and Domain Tunnel on-ramps and lane 4 on the Harbour Bridge. Roads in Circular Quay including sections of Albert St, Alfred St, Essex St, George St, Loftus St, Phillip St and Young St.

Vintage Buses
The Taxi Rank at Macquarie Street (easter side near SOH) will also be accessible for Vintage Buses. The Buses would be in operation from 10:30am – 5pm on Australia Day (Wed 26 January) and would utilise that area on Macquarie Street as to pick up guests to go on a bus ride over the Harbour Bridge and back. They would drop off guests on the opposite side of the street near the corner of Alfred and Macquarie Street.
Road Closures for Australia Day Concert & Fireworks, Morreau Reserve, Rooty Hill
On Wednesday 26 January 2022, the Annual Australia Day Concert and Fireworks will be held at Morreau Reserve, Rooty Hill. In past years this event has attracted a peak crowd of about 30,000 to the ‘Rooty Hill’.
A road closure is required to allow for restricted access to the event site for the various activities associated with this event. Please download the Road Closure Map below
