Sydney New Year’s Eve is a celebration that wows the world with its style and spectacle.
The events featuring one of the world’s largest, most technologically advanced displays of fireworks, lighting and projections. Sydney New Year’s Eve plays live to more than 1 million spectators along the Sydney Harbour foreshore, and reaches a global audience of more than 425 million.
The stunning Sydney Harbour, famous Sydney Harbour Bridge and glorious Sydney Opera House will take centre stage for 2 spectacular firework displays at 9pm, and the main event at midnight.
Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to line the Harbour to see this year’s 9pm and midnight Sydney New Year’s Eve fireworks on Saturday 31 December 2022.

Taxi Rank Information for NYE 2022
Taxis
Taxi drivers are urged to use the dedicated temporary event Taxi ranks on New Year’s Eve.
Taxi ranks within the road closure footprints in the Sydney CBD, Pyrmont and North Sydney areas will not be accessible once roads are closed.
These Taxi ranks will operate from 9pm on NYE until 4am on New Year's Day (except Lime St) at the following locations:
Sussex St between King St and Market St (western side)
Liverpool St between Wentworth Ave and Elizabeth St (southern side)
King St Wharf Lime St at Erskine St from 9pm to 11pm then from 1.30am until 4am only
Pyrmont Bridge Rd between Edward St and Pirrama Rd (northern side)
Zollner Circuit Darling Harbour
Goulburn St between George St and Pitt St (southern side)
Security guards will be present at various Taxi ranks on New Year’s Eve:
33 Bayswater Road, 9pm to 4am.
Darlinghurst Rd near Roslyn St, 9pm to 4am.
Oxford St, between Pelican and Riley Street, 9pm to 4am.
Darling Harbour, northern end of Lime Street, 9pm to 11pm, 1.30am to 4am, limited operation.
Sussex Street, between King and Market streets, 9pm to 11pm, 1.30am to 4am, limited operation.
Sydney CBD 43-57 Goulburn St, 9pm to 4am.
Zollner Circuit, 9pm to 4am.
Pyrmont Bridge Rd, 9pm to 4am.
Liverpool St at Hyde Park, 9pm to 4am.

Road Closures
In the Sydney CBD, some roads start closing from as early as 4am with roads in Circular Quay and The Rocks closed by 2pm, followed by major closures in the city centre and Pyrmont by 7pm.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge will be completely closed in both directions from 11pm ahead of the midnight fireworks. The Anzac Bridge citybound lanes will close from 8.30pm to 9.30pm and again from 11pm to 1.30am for both firework displays.
Major roads in North Sydney, Milsons Point and Kirribilli start closing from 5pm, with some early morning local road closures around vantage points.
Majority of roads in North Sydney and Milsons Point will reopen by 3am, while in the Sydney CBD most roads will reopen by 4am on New Year’s Day 1 January.
Service providers and drivers are urged to familiarise themselves with the road closures ahead of time. Real-time updates will be available at livetraffic.com.

12am 30 Dec – 4am 1 Jan: roads in the Royal Botanic Garden & Domain including Art Gallery Rd.
4am 31 Dec – 6am 1 Jan: Macquarie St north of Bridge St
8am 31 Dec: Cahill Expressway northbound. Note the Cahill Expressway southbound will already be closed from 10pm Monday 26 December. Both directions will be closed until 4.30am Monday 9 January 2023.
12pm 31 Dec – 4am 1 Jan: Hickson Rd from Millers Point to Barangaroo.
2pm 31 Dec – 4am 1 Jan: roads north of Bridge St at Circular Quay including George St/Hickson Rd to Pottinger St, Phillip, Young, Pitt and Loftus Streets, and Upper Fort St at Observatory Hill.
3pm 31 Dec – 3am 1 Jan: Blue St at North Sydney Station
5pm 31 Dec – 4am 1 Jan: Railway Colonnade at Central Station
5pm 31 Dec – 3am 1 Jan: roads in North Sydney and Milsons Point including sections of Miller St, Lavender St, Lavender St off-ramp, Pacific Hwy southbound, Blues Point Rd and Alfred St South, and surrounding local roads.
6pm 31 Dec – 4am 1 Jan: Wheat Rd at King St Wharf, and Darling Island Rd at Pyrmont.
7pm 31 Dec – 4am 1 Jan: Major roads in the CBD centre between York St and Macquarie St from Circular Quay to Hyde Park, roads in The Rocks including Argyle St, Harrington St, Cumberland St and sections of Hickson Rd, and Pirrama Rd in Pyrmont. After 7pm there will be no access to Harbour St from the Harbour Bridge, use York St or Glebe Off-ramps. For access to Darling Harbour continue via Sussex St.
8pm 31 Dec – 1.30am 1 Jan: Darling Drive from Pyrmont Bridge Rd to Pier St
8pm 31 Dec – 3am 1 Jan: Pacific Hwy off ramp to North Sydney from Sydney Harbour Bridge, and sections of Walker St.
8.30pm - 9.30pm 31 Dec: citybound lanes on the Anzac Bridge and Western Distributor
10pm 31 Dec – 1.30am 1 Jan: roads in Millers Point including sections of Kent St, Windmill St, Argyle St and Lower Fort St.
10pm 31 Dec – 4am 1 Jan: roads between Wynyard and Town Hall including sections of York St and Clarence St between Margaret St and Druitt St.
11pm 31 Dec- 1.30am 1 Jan: Sydney Harbour Bridge closed in both directions, Anzac Bridge closed citybound, and Western Distributor fully closed between Pyrmont and the city. Roads in CBD West also closed including Sussex St and Kent St, and all roads in King St Wharf. Additional closures in CBD South around Hyde Park including sections of Liverpool, Pitt, Castlereagh and Elizabeth Streets, sections of roads around Central station also closed.
Sydney Harbour Bridge Walkway and Cycleway will be closed from 6pm 31 Dec to 2am 1 Jan.
